Another great image by Jim Vincent. This image of M101 took about 1 hour and is made
up of 4 images, red, green, blue and luminance. The image was captured at our dark sky
site in Essex on the evening of Friday 16th April.

"Managed to give the SXV and auto guider a good try out and
bagged M33. The auto guider works much better on the LX 90 when used with the
6.3 focal reducer. The shorter focal length smoothes out the control corrections
especially when used with the one second delay facility on the auto guide panel".

The observing site was on the island of La Palma over four nights (17th to the 20th
August 2001),a period of gusty wind and poor seeing for that location.
This shot was at the prime focus of a Brandon 94mm F7 refractor using a Nikon camera body
attached via a 2" adapter. The mount was a Vixen GPDX with SS2K software and guided
using an SBIG4 autoguider. The film used was Kodak Elite Chrome 200. Exposure times
for the colour varied between 45 and 20 minutes, the latter being due to concern over the
gusts of wind we were experiencing.
